FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Telephonic Stethoscopes

Q.      Do I need a PC to use the TR-1 or TR-1/EF digital stethoscope?

A.  No.  The TR-1 or TR-1/EF simply requires an asynchronous data channel with an RS232 interface.  If the video conferencing system has a data channel, then the TR-1 can be plugged directly into the data port.  An example of this would be the Polycom VSX 7000/8000.  (See the Application Note on the Polycom web site or contact us for a copy.)

If the video conferencing system does not have a data port, you can use a PC that is on the network.  Connect the TR-1 or TR-1/EF to the serial port of the PC and use our Stethoscope Over IP (SOIP) software on the PC to make the connections and pass the stethoscope data.

An alternative when there is no data channel with the video conferencing system is to use our analog stethoscope implementation over the audio channel.

 Q.      I already have another vendor’s telephonic stethoscope in my system.  Do I have to have your product at both ends?

 A.  Yes.  The TR-1, TR-1/EF and TR-USB digital telephonic stethoscopes do not interoperate with telephonic stethoscopes from other companies.

However, because it may be to your advantage to use the TR-1, TR-1/EF or TR-USB as you grow your system, we will work with you providing guidance and incentives to help you make the transition.

 Q.      What is your warranty?

 A.  The standard warranty is one year.  An extended warranty is available.

 Q.      Do I need to purchase any software from you to use the products?

A.  The only time you would need software is when you are connecting the digital telephonic stethoscopes to an IP network through a PC.  Our SOIP software is available for that case.

Q.      How can I get a demo?

A   Give us a call.  We’ll discuss your needs and get the appropriate product to you so that you can evaluate it.

 Telehealth Scales

 Q.      What are my options if I purchase the cabled version of the scale, the SC-2, then find out later that I really want the wireless version?

 A.  We simply upgrade your scales.  The cabled version, SC-2, can be upgraded to the wireless version, the SC-2/BT, with the addition of a wireless module inside the scale.

 Q.      Does the data port on the SC-2/BT scale still work even though it is wireless?

 A.  Yes.  The wireless feature supplements the data port.  It doesn’t replace it.

 Q.      What wireless standard does the SC-2/BT scale use?

 A.  The SC-2/BT uses the Bluetooth wireless standard.

 Q.      What is the range of the SC-2/BT wireless scale?

 A.  The SC-2/BT has a Class 1 output power level with a nominal range of 300 feet.  That is an open field distance.  Having the wireless signal travel through the walls of a house dramatically reduces the actual range.  Each installation is different.  However, the Class 1 power should work well in most homes.

 Q.      If there is a wireless LAN in the house, will there be interference with the SC-2/BT scale?

A.  The SC-2/BT wireless scale uses the latest version of Bluetooth, Version 2.0, which was specifically enhanced to be robust and tolerant of wireless LANs in the same area.
